Exercise 19

Avg difficulty 3.0

Prove these.

  • For any v⃗∈V\vec{v}\in V, if w⃗∈V\vec{w}\in V is an additive inverse of v⃗\vec{v}, then v⃗\vec{v} is an additive inverse of w⃗\vec{w}. So a vector is an additive inverse of any additive inverse of itself.

  • Vector addition left-cancels: if v⃗,s⃗,t⃗∈V\vec{v},\vec{s},\vec{t}\in V then v⃗+s⃗=v⃗+t⃗ \vec{v}+\vec{s}=\vec{v}+\vec{t}\, implies that s⃗=t⃗\vec{s}=\vec{t}.
