These prove that isomorphism is an equivalence relation.

  • Show that the identity map id ⁣:V→V\text{id}\colon V\to V is an isomorphism. Thus, any vector space is isomorphic to itself.

  • Show that if f ⁣:V→Wf\colon V\to W is an isomorphism then so is its inverse f−1 ⁣:W→Vf^{-1}\colon W\to V. Thus, if VV is isomorphic to WW then also WW is isomorphic to VV.

  • Show that a composition of isomorphisms is an isomorphism: if f ⁣:V→Wf\colon V\to W is an isomorphism and g ⁣:W→Ug\colon W\to U is an isomorphism then so also is g∘f ⁣:V→Ug\mathbin{\circ}f\colon V\to U. Thus, if VV is isomorphic to WW and WW is isomorphic to UU, then also VV is isomorphic to UU.
