Exercise 4

Avg difficulty 3.0

Consider the transformation t ⁣:P2→P2t\colon\mathcal{P}_{2}\to\mathcal{P}_{2} described by x2↦x+1x^{2}\mapsto x+1, x↦x2−1x\mapsto x^{2}-1, and 1↦31\mapsto 3.

  • Find T=RepB,B(t)T={\rm Rep}_{B,B}(t) where B=⟨x2,x,1⟩B=\langle x^{2},x,1\rangle.

  • Find T^=RepD,D(t)\hat{T}={\rm Rep}_{D,D}(t) where D=⟨1,1+x,1+x+x2⟩D=\langle 1,1+x,1+x+x^{2}\rangle.

  • Find the matrix PP such that T^=PTP−1\hat{T}=PTP^{-1}.
