Exercise 6

Avg difficulty 3.0

Exhibit a nontrivial similarity relationship by letting t ⁣:C2→C2t\colon\mathbb{C}^{2}\to\mathbb{C}^{2} act in this way,

(12)↦(30)(−11)↦(−12)\begin{pmatrix}1\\ 2\end{pmatrix}\mapsto\begin{pmatrix}3\\ 0\end{pmatrix}\qquad\begin{pmatrix}-1\\ 1\end{pmatrix}\mapsto\begin{pmatrix}-1\\ 2\end{pmatrix}

picking two bases B,DB,D, and representing tt with respect to them, T^=RepB,B(t)\hat{T}={\rm Rep}_{B,B}(t) and T=RepD,D(t)T={\rm Rep}_{D,D}(t). Then compute the PP and P−1P^{-1} to change bases from BB to DD and back again.
