Exercise 20

Avg difficulty 3.0

Suppose that TT is n ⁣× ⁣nn\!\times\!n and c,dc,d are scalars.

  • Prove that if TT has the eigenvalue λ\lambda with an associated eigenvector v⃗\vec{v} then v⃗\vec{v} is an eigenvector of cT+dIcT+dI associated with eigenvalue cλ+dc\lambda+d.

  • Prove that if TT is diagonalizable then so is cT+dIcT+dI.
