Exercise 10.4.4

Avg difficulty 3.0

Let T:R2→R2T:\mathbb{R}^{2}\to\mathbb{R}^{2} be a linear transformation defined by

T([ab])=[a+ba−b].T\left(\left[\begin{array}{c}a\\ b\end{array}\right]\right)=\left[\begin{array}{c}a+b\\ a-b\end{array}\right].

Consider the two bases

B1={[10],[−11]}B_{1}=\left\{\left[\begin{array}{r}1\\ 0\end{array}\right],\left[\begin{array}{r}-1\\ 1\end{array}\right]\right\}

and

B2={[11],[1−1]}.B_{2}=\left\{\left[\begin{array}{r}1\\ 1\end{array}\right],\left[\begin{array}{r}1\\ -1\end{array}\right]\right\}.

Find the matrix MB2,B1M_{B_{2},B_{1}} of TT with respect to the bases B1B_{1} and B2B_{2}.
