Exercise 33

Avg difficulty 2.5

We define the trace of a 2×22 \times 2 matrix to be the sum of its diagonal entries. That is, the trace of A=(abcd)A =\begin{pmatrix} a & b \\ c & d \end{pmatrix} is tr⁡(A)=a+d\trace(A) = a + d. Show that tr⁡(AB)=tr⁡(BA)\trace(AB) = \trace(BA) for any 2×22 \times 2 matrices AA and BB.
