Problem 6

Avg difficulty 3.0

Consider the polynomial f(x)=x3−2f(x)=x^{3}-2. Let EE be the splitting field of f(x)f(x) over Q\mathbb{Q}.

  1. Find a field FF such that FF is a simple extension of Q\mathbb{Q}, its primitive element is a real number, and Q⊂F⊂E\mathbb{Q}\subset F\subset E.

  2. Show that FF is not a splitting field of any polynomial in Q[x]\mathbb{Q}[x].
