Exercise 9

Avg difficulty 2.5

Suppose that AA is a 12×1212\times12 matrix and that, for some vector b\bvec, the equation Ax=bA\xvec=\bvec has a unique solution.

  1. What can you say about the pivot positions of AA?

  2. What can you say about the span of the columns of AA?

  3. If c\cvec is some other vector in R12\real^{12}, what can you conclude about the equation Ax=cA\xvec = \cvec?

  4. What can you say about the solution space to the equation Ax=0A\xvec =\zerovec?
