Exercise 1

Avg difficulty 2.5

Suppose that TT is the matrix transformation defined by the matrix AA and SS is the matrix transformation defined by BB where A=[3−10122−132],B=[1−10212]A = \left[\begin{array}{rrr} 3 & -1 & 0 \\ 1 & 2 & 2 \\ -1 & 3 & 2 \\ \end{array}\right], \qquad B = \left[\begin{array}{rrr} 1 & -1 & 0 \\ 2 & 1 & 2 \\ \end{array}\right].

  1. If T:Rn→RmT:\real^n\to\real^m, what are the values of mm and nn? What values of mm and nn are appropriate for the transformation SS?

  2. Evaluate T([1−32])T\left(\threevec{1}{-3}{2}\right).

  3. Evaluate S([−221])S\left(\threevec{-2}{2}{1}\right).

  4. Evaluate S∘T([1−32])S\circ T\left(\threevec{1}{-3}{2}\right).

  5. Find the matrix CC that defines the matrix transformation S∘TS\circ T.
