Exercise 2

Avg difficulty 2.5

Determine whether the following matrices have complex eigenvalues. If so, find the matrix CC such that A=PCP−1A = PCP^{-1}.

  1. A=[−2−2−21]A = \left[\begin{array}{rr} -2 & -2 \\ -2 & 1 \\ \end{array}\right].

  2. A=[−11−1−3]A = \left[\begin{array}{rr} -1 & 1 \\ -1 & -3 \\ \end{array}\right].

  3. A=[3−42−1]A = \left[\begin{array}{rr} 3 & -4 \\ 2 & -1 \\ \end{array}\right].
