Exercise 20

Avg difficulty 2.5

Consider the triangle in R3\R^3 formed by P=(3,2,−1)P=(3, 2, -1), Q=(1,−2,4)Q=(1, -2, 4), and R=(4,4,0)R=(4, 4, 0).

  1. Find PQ→\overrightarrow{PQ} and PR→\overrightarrow{PR}.

  2. Observe that the area of △PQR\triangle PQR is half of the area of the parallelogram formed by PQ→\overrightarrow{PQ} and PR→\overrightarrow{PR}. Hence find the area of △PQR\triangle PQR.

  3. Find a unit vector that is orthogonal to the plane that contains points PP, QQ, and RR.

  4. Determine the measure of ∠QPR\angle QPR.
