Exercise 11.2.5

Avg difficulty 3.0

Suppose B={u1,u2,u3}B=\left\{\mathbf{u}_{1},\mathbf{u}_{2},\mathbf{u}_{3}\right\} is an orthogonal basis for an inner product space VV, such that ∥u1∥=2\left\|\mathbf{u}_{1}\right\|=2, ∥u2∥=3\left\|\mathbf{u}_{2}\right\|=\sqrt{3}, and ∥u3∥=5\left\|\mathbf{u}_{3}\right\|=\sqrt{5}. Moreover, suppose that v∈V\mathbf{v}\in V is a vector such that ⟨v,u1⟩=1\langle\mathbf{v},\mathbf{u}_{1}\rangle=1, ⟨v,u2⟩=2\langle\mathbf{v},\mathbf{u}_{2}\rangle=2, and ⟨v,u3⟩=−4\langle\mathbf{v},\mathbf{u}_{3}\rangle=-4. Find the coordinates of v\mathbf{v} with respect to BB.
