Exercise 11.2.6

Avg difficulty 3.0

Suppose B={u1,u2,u3}B=\left\{\mathbf{u}_{1},\mathbf{u}_{2},\mathbf{u}_{3}\right\} is an orthogonal basis of R3\mathbb{R}^{3}. We have been told that

u1=[110],\mathbf{u}_{1}=\left[\begin{array}{c}1\\ 1\\ 0\end{array}\right],

but it is not known what u2\mathbf{u}_{2} and u3\mathbf{u}_{3} are. Find the first coordinate of the vector

v=[102]\mathbf{v}=\left[\begin{array}{c}1\\ 0\\ 2\end{array}\right]

with respect to the basis BB.
