Exercise 7

Avg difficulty 2.5

Determine whether the following statements are true or false and explain your reasoning.

  1. If AA is invertible, then the columns of AA are linearly independent.

  2. If AA is a square matrix whose diagonal entries are all nonzero, then AA is invertible.

  3. If AA is an invertible n×nn\times n matrix, then span of the columns of AA is Rn\real^n.

  4. If AA is invertible, then there is a nonzero solution to the homogeneous equation Ax=0A\xvec = \zerovec.

  5. If AA is an n×nn\times n matrix and the equation Ax=bA\xvec = \bvec has a solution for every vector b\bvec, then AA is invertible.
